The Future of Sports Technology: Going Big When Everything Else is Going Small

As someone who’s deep in the sports tech space for years, I’ve seen how technology has made sports more accessible, allowing fans to watch their favorite teams anywhere, anytime.

But I’m excited by tech ventures like Cosm and The Sphere, who are taking things in a new direction—creating larger-than-life, immersive experiences that can’t be replicated at home.

The Sphere’s recent UFC 306 event from this past weekend is a powerful example of how live sports can be transformed, delivering a sensory experience that makes fans feel like they’re part of the action.

It’s a bold move, and it’s exactly where I see the future of live sports headed.

Here are the hoopers who pushed our AI stat-tracking technology into overdrive this week.

Welcoming Southern Alberta Hoops Hub

The Southern Alberta Hoops Hub League in action.

We’re excited to welcome the Southern Alberta Hoops Hub League in Coaldale, Alberta, to the SportsVisio platform! As they join our community, they’ll be using our AI-powered stats and highlights to power their Draft Leagues and elevate the experience for their players and fans.

Highlights are bigger than ever

Those were the days when recording one's best basketball moment required lugging a bulky camcorder, then praying that maybe the other team would let you close in on the action. Sharing those highlights with friends, coaches, or scouts meant making copies of VHS tapes, laying down DVDs, and then delivering these by hand or by mail; and if you wanted to edit those clips, well, forget it.

Be prepared to spend hours in manual work or fighting with online editors for that perfect moment. Fast forward to today, basketball video highlights have not only become easier, they have become way more impactful. New in the App this Week

PIE Score are now available in all of our leagues. Navigate to your league page, click on rankings, and then filter to PIE and see who is most efficient all around player.

PIE is used to determine the player of the game, and is the first of many advanced stats we plan to roll out.

PIE Leaders at Southern Alberta Hoops League

For the math whiz out there, it’s calculated as such:

PIE (Player Impact Estimate) - (Points + Field Goals Made + Free Throws Made – Field Goal Attempts – Free Throw Attempts + Defensive Rebounds + (Offensive Rebounds/2) + Assists + Steals + (Blocks/2) – Personal Fouls – Turnovers) / (Total Game Points + Total Game Field Goals Made + Total Game Free Throws Made – Total Game Field Goals Attempted – Total Game Free Throws Attempted + Total Defensive Rebounds + (Total Offensive Rebounds/2) + Total Game Assists + Total Game Steals + (Total Game Blocks/2) – Total Game Fouls – Total Game Turnovers)
